Ghana Trip 2014

Long time no see. Time  started updating again, hey? Last post was over a year ago! Apologies for my lack of commitment to this blog and indeed my YouTube channel, which has been left to gather dust, quite frankly. I intend to put myself back on the Blogosphere at some point and post more YouTube videos in the future, but I have slightly more pressing matters to deal with at present: exams, coursework, and my upcoming trip to Ghana!

In October 2014, I will be taking a trip to Ghana to build an orphanage for evicted children as young as 2 months of age. On the trip, we will be living like locals: sleeping in a hostel, collecting water, making our own food etc. It is bound to be an enlightening experience for everyone taking part. However, we have until September to collect £1800 for various parts of the trip. So far, I have £1100 raised and I'm hoping to raise as much as possible from a sponsored cycle ride from Norfolk to Leicestershire. More info can be found on a separate blog: taleksemmens.wordpress.com. Any comments or queries can easily be posted there.

Arts Award Project

Over the last 3 months, I have been working on a project for the Level 2 Arts Award, a nationally recognised Arts qualification. My current school specialises in Art and thus the Arts Award is compulsory. Furthermore, if you fail, you are required to do an Arts subject for GCSE, but you don't get to choose! For this reason, I really want to pass.

The course comes in two stages: Stage 1 - Arts Challenge and Stage 2 - Leadership. There are also research tasks and career pathway paperwork to be completed in Tutorial. For my challenge, I took on the task of constructing a guitar/banjo out of junk that I could find in storage. Unfortunately, the school workshop was also being used for BTEC Sport coursework and I couldn't use any of the scroll saws, band facers, pillar drills or any of the tables. I was forced to use manual tools and use a table at the very back of the room to avoid disturbing the BTEC Sport lesson. This considerably prolonged the amount of time I had to spend working on the project. Nevertheless, I completed the challenge and completed all of the necessary paperwork.

In Stage 2, the task was to plan and teach at least 3 lessons in an Arts subject of your choosing. My partner and I chose to teach how to make a music video. We made use of the schools video cameras, tripods, film light, blue screen and green screen. Because it was such a difficult subject, we were given a time extention so we had 5 weeks to teach instead of 3. The extra effort paid off and the group's music video received positive feedback from the audience.

A link to my official Arts Award review will be uploaded soon.

I will also upload the photos of the project and the blueprints.

World Peace

It's been a while since I last posted; six months to be precise. As part of an ICT project at school, my friends and I are campaigning for World Peace. A link to the campaign blog will be at the bottom of the post. Please subscribe.

Monday, 26 December 2011

It's boxing day and I've done practically nothing all day, but I did dig out my bicycle and ride to my Grandmother's house and see her, my Grandfather, my Aunt and her 1-year-old daughter, Bronnen. I figured out the problem with bicycle light and helped fix my Granny's laptop. It's been a great Christmas this year, and I have a feeling that it's not all over yet... As for my Christmas presents, I got a big Hex Bug, a 'Very Rare'
Hex Bug Nano, a professional art set, a box of Jelly Beans, £20 in total and a new wallet in which to contain it, two XBox games; Colin McRae Rally 3 and Commandos: Strike Force, a keyring LED wind-up torch, a Breo Sports watch, a Volkswagen Camper Van train canvas painting, a Volkswagen Camper Van calendar for 2012 (can you see a running theme here?), plenty of chocolate, two new pairs of pyjamas, a new dressing gown, a DVD of Kung Fu Panda 2, Rango and The Polar Express, a CD/DVD set of Pop Party 9, the Bruno Mars debut album and a CD of Now that's what I call music! Vol. 80. Not forgetting the mobile phone, the Twin LED Mosaic Mirror rotating Disco ball and set of 180 multi-functional Christmas lights with which to decorate my bedroom that I acquired prior to Christmas Day. All in all, I haven't done badly on the Christmas present front. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all!
